Which File Sharing Program Should You Choose

There are a number of reasons you should look for when choosing a p2p or file share program. The first is to see if it is easy to use even someone with little knowledge of computers, the program should be easy to use for anyone to find and download the music, movies and tv shows. They should be able to burn media directly to disk straight from the program. Making it a quick and easy way to get the files you want.

They need to be fast. Most people who do p2p file sharing use torrent files. These files allow you to download pieces of a file from everyone who has it. It is a great way to share files and you can often get really hard to find or obscure things in this way but it can be a bit of a pain and often times can take a long time to download. The torrent programs also take up a huge amount of systems resources slowing your internet connection and your computer down.

Some programs are not as fast as direct download but you have greater access to the files you want to download. You also do not have to pay per song, monthly, or bandwidth download fees. You can download for free or use the pro version for more advanced features.

It comes with burning software. You can now download and burn all with the same program saving you time, and space on your computer. Some file sharing programs show you what files are licensed as so you can protect yourself when it comes to copyright infringement.

It uses one of the largest file sharing networks in the world to provide you with everything you are looking for including games. You can download just about anything. Even books can be found for download. It incorporates the lasts technology to sort and organize so that you get access to the files you want. It also lets you see the connection speed listed of the people who have the file.

This allows you to choose providers that can provide you with the fastest download speed possible. High connection speeds equal more bandwidth and that means that you are able to download and enjoy faster.

Because you are downloading from multiple sources you can often listen or view the parts of the file that you have already downloaded before the file is even finished. This is not recommended since all files should be scanned prior to use and it does eat an incredible amount of systems resources to do so. However, it is possible and a great way to make sure that you are getting what you want.

File sharing programs help protect you from copyright infringement by placing licensing symbols next to the files to let you know which files are under what type of license. It also provides a listing to the copyright office to allow you to check to see if a file with no licensing symbol is something that can be safely downloaded.

Finally, file sharing programs allows you to try before you buy helping to save you money in the long run by providing you with a way to try out new artists and songs before you purchase them.

Microphone Techniques And Drums

Recording drums can be a challenge both to the mics and record. So, we need to have a good idea about the techniques that can help us to get a better result. While recording one thing should be kept in mind: if the drums are good, then everything else would be perfectly all right. That means everything else can be fixed later and the take will be perfect.

Various microphone techniques actually affect how much bass, midrange, and treble that we hear in the monitored sound of a musical instrument. There are various points that one should keep in mind while deciding the microphone techniques. The mic choice and placement affect how distant the instruments sound in recording and how much background noise is picked up. But there are no hard and fast rules about where the mics should be placed. If the placement of the mic sounds good to the user then that should be the correct position to use them.

There are various techniques of microphones that can be used in various environments to record drums. Let us learn those in details. Like in the home studio environment the most common and the most successful way to get a perfect sound is to use the triangle miking style. This style involves three mics, hence called triangle. The first mic is placed on the kick drum, and the other one on the either side of the kit. This method will allow catching us a bit of the drum kit.

Before using the microphone technique we need to know what kind of sound output we prefer, such as whether it is big and boomy or round and subdued or tight or punchy? Then the technique will be different while capturing the sound.

If we want big and boomy sound the mic should be placed around two inches in the front head of the drum or away from the head pointed at the center of the drum. For getting a round and muffled sound the drum should be stuffed with a large piece of foam. If the position of the mic is placed in such a way where the halfback is striking out the tight and punchy sound will be recorded.

But this kind of method has one drawback. Some kind of weird lower mid unpleasantness will come, but that could be rectified during the post production stage. In any case the microphone should not be placed in any other direction inside the drum because sound bouncing all around the waves will end up canceling themselves out, thus resulting in loss of volume and tone.

But the microphone techniques will change when the type of drum changes. The above technique could only be used for kick drum only. Setting the microphone for snare drum will definitely be different. In order to record this kind of drum we need two microphones. But just placing the microphone on the front of the drum is not enough. So, planning is needed to decide where the mike should be placed. It would be a good idea to place the bottom mic exactly to the opposite of the top mic. Before the recording starts just turn over the mike on and off and then a decision has to be made about which setting is delivering the perfect sound.

How to Camp Out for Concert Tickets

Has there ever been a concert you were just dying to go see, but by the time you got through on the phone with the box office, the tickets were all sold out? Well get in line! No, really! For some shows, you have to camp out at a ticketing box office overnight to be in line early enough to grab a ticket.

So often today, the demand for concert tickets is larger than the ticket supply. So, if you want those tickets, you have to be one of the first people in line. Of course, there is always the phone and Internet, but in my experience, I've always had better luck, and better seats, camping out in line.

First, and most importantly, after you've picked the concert you want to see, you need to find out what date and time it goes on sale. The most common on-sale date/time is Saturday mornings at 10:00 am. But, of course, this may vary, so double check. For many performers, there are pre-sales. However, the codes for those sales are usually provided by a fan club membership, which costs extra money. And in today's economy - who has that?

Secondly, you need to figure out where you're going to buy the tickets from. There are usually only two options here: Ticketmaster, or the venue box office. You could always get your tickets from a secondary ticket broker, but I'll get to that later. Ticketmaster has box offices all over the place. So, it would be best to find out which is closer to you: a Ticketmaster location, or the venue itself.

Okay, so now you know where you're going and when you're going! Good! But you're probably still wondering how early you need to get there, huh? Well, that all depends. If it's a super popular concert, and it's sold out the last few years in a row, or in the previous cities, where it went on sale first - it's probably going to be an overnighter. And that's why you're reading this anyway - right? So, get your bags packed and grab some friends!

Plan on getting to the location the night before the tickets actually go on sale. In some cases, you may need to get there at least 24 hours before, but let's assume it's just an overnighter, and you can get there in the evening, when you get off of work or school, whatever the case may be. The most important thing is a lawn chair! Get that first! Below is the list of other necessities, and any notes I can think of.

Lawn (or camp) chair - once you wake up in the morning, you'll probably have to take your tent down, but there will still be several hours of waiting ahead of you. Yes, you can stand or sit on the floor, but trust me, after about two hours, you'll wish you had one of these!

Tent - you might want to check with the location before you bring this. Some places have ordinances against using them in public places, like outside of a store. But, it is helpful to have, in case you are allowed to have one.

Sleeping bag/blankets/pillow - again, how many you need will depend on your comfort zone. Some people only need a sheet to be able to sleep anywhere, some need a little more, so bring whatever feels best for you. And remember, you can always leave stuff in your car and get it only when you need it. No use in hogging the sidewalk if you don't need to

Water/food/drinks and a cooler - Again, the amount you'll need to bring depends on you. Just remember though, you probably won't have access to a refrigerator or any heating device (microwave, oven, toaster), so bring stuff that doesn't need to be heated up.

The cooler, obviously, will keep things cool. Bottled water, sodas, juice boxes, sandwiches, chips, pretzels, and dip are all great things to have. You could always call for pizza delivery, but I have found some chains don't deliver unless you have an actual address for them. You could always use the location address, but again, keep it simple.

Money - Yeah, don't forget you have to pay for those tickets

Friends/cards/games - You will get bored. And if you're standing in line by yourself, you'll get real bored around all those strangers. Although, conversations are usually struck up and people tend to bond over their shared experience, it's still best to bring someone you know along with you.

Alright, so now you should be packed up and ready to go! Another great reason to bring a friend is that you'll have someone to hold your place in line. So, grab your friend too and get to the box office! As soon as you get there, stake out your spot in line. Set up your tent, or whatever you have. Then, get comfortable.

I did wait in line once for HFStival tickets, and the woman at the front of the line had been doing this for years. So, she started a list - as soon as someone else got it line, their name was added to the list. This helped to keep things fair in line - there was no "cutting" the line; everyone knew who everyone else was, and where their spot was. You could do this, if you're first in line, but don't feel that it's required.

So, assuming you've made it through the night, wake up early and put your tent and other bulky items back in the car, or out of the way somehow. Once those doors open, you don't want to be tripping over someone's stuff, trying to get in the door. Conversely, you don't want your things to be trampled. Also, once all the bulky stuff is gone, the line seems like it gets shorter - YAY! It doesn't actually - you're just closer to the people in front of you, but by then, any seeming success feels great!

Set out your lawn or camp chair, and get ready to wait some more. Hopefully, someone in line will offer to make a coffee and bagel run, or you could do this yourself. Again, if you have that friend with you, he or she can hold down both of your spots while you go to the coffee shop, or wherever.

Once the doors open, get your butt moving to get those great tickets! Once it's your turn, the ticket agent (the person behind the counter at the ticket machine) will ask you how many tickets you need, and then will tell you what seats are available. Get them! The seating options only get worse the longer you wait. Then, pay the money and enjoy the show!

For those who were unsuccessful, or who don't feel like doing all that work: The secondary ticket broker will be your best bet. A secondary ticket broker is not affiliated with the box office, performer, or venue in any way. They are a company that buys and sells tickets on the secondary market. So, the prices for the tickets will probably be higher, but you'll have a variety of seating locations (want 3rd row on the floor? No problem!).

There are many secondary ticket brokers out there. However, make sure, if you decide to purchase tickets this way, that the broker is registered with the Better Business Bureau, and the National Association of Ticket Brokers. You want to make sure you're buying from a legit place, after all. Also, let's say you waited in line and got those great tickets you wanted, and for some reason, you can't make it to the show after all.

Ticketmaster and most box offices do not have refund or return policies. Again, this is where secondary brokers work to your advantage. Most brokers also buy tickets. So if you can't make it to a show, call a broker, and see if you can't at least get your money back by selling them your ticket!

Sound Reproduction System

US2008130905

A sound reproduction system comprises a left and right speakers located in close proximity, and a sound processor which provides audio signals to the pair of speakers. The sound processor preferably derives a cancellation signal from the difference between the left and right channels. The resulting difference signal is scaled, delayed (if necessary), and spectrally modified before being added to the left channel and, in opposite polarity, to the right channel. The spectral modification to the difference channel preferably takes the form of a low-frequency boost over a specified frequency range, in order to restore the correct timbral balance after the differencing process. Additional phase-compensating all-pass networks may be inserted in the difference channel to correct for any extra phase shift contributed by the spectral modifying circuit. The technique may be used in a surround sound system.

How To Judge The Sound Quality Of A Speaker

Speakers are tools that deliver sound. While listening to any kind of music or watching any movie, speakers are necessary. To get the right feel of the music and movie, you need to have a good speaker.

A good speaker means a speaker of good sound quality. Not all of them are equally good. So you need to be very careful while buying them. In this article, we will tell you how to judge the sound quality of a speaker.

A good speaker does not have any private sound. The job of a speaker is to deliver the sound exactly the way it is in the source. It will not provide any extra sound. If it does, then it will not be considered a good speaker. If it makes the violin or string sound edgy or if it creates an artificial bass for the male voice, then also it will not be counted as an effective speaker.

Midrange is very important for human listening. This is the range that we hear most clearly. A good speaker must be able to deliver this midrange smoothly and that too without any kind of harsh sound. If the lead portion of a guitar sounds harsh or the midst sound becomes muffled, that means the speaker is not of good quality. In this case the music also will not seem realistic to you.

There are some other ways also to judge its sound. If you are listening to a female voice and if you find that it is not sounding clear, then you will get hint about the poor quality of the speaker. But if you find the sounds too much clear or shrill and if you find an extra emphasis on the S&T, then you can definitely come to the conclusion about the bad quality of the speaker.

A very effective way to judge the quality of a speaker is to listen to chorus songs. There has to be four parts in a chorus. Basses and tenors of the men and sopranos and altos of the women. In a proper speaker, you will very easily be able to distinguish all four of them. If the speaker is not good, then it will produce a very blurred sound.

When you are buying a speaker, then you must check the center channel speaker properly. A balance between the center and the front right and left speakes is very much important. If it does not happen, then the music will not sound well balanced.

Experience helps a lot on judging a good speaker. If you are experienced and listen to loudspeakers very often, then it will be easier for you to understand when the speaker is not sounding well. And then you can complain to the manufacturer.

But this is not all. If you want to know how to judge the sound quality of a speaker, then you must be aware of the branding. Make sure that you are not buying them from just anybody. Go for reputed brands, even if they are expensive. It will give you security and will make it an enchanting experience to listen.

Bob Findlays Bold Move to Centralise Begins to Pay Dividends

Prior to Scots rocker Bob Findlay centralising his music and fanbase to ReverbNation he was hovering around the 250-300 mark. Over the last several weeks he has been hovering around the 150-200 mark, at one point reaching position 144 in the rock charts.

Not being an avid follower of his rankings Findlay seems somewhat underwhelmed by these figures. He told me recently “The only reason that I centralised to ReverbNation was to save time going from site to site.” Findlay was quick to add, “ReverbNation also give you the best statistical breakdown as to who’s listening to what, how much of the somg their listening to, how many letters they open and where they’re listening from….It makes it much easier to target the listeners, for want of a better word.”

Findlays’ personal website also appears to have benefited from his centralisation. Over the las few weeks there has been something of an onslaught of people joining his mailing list, which has just surpassed the 20, 000 mark.

Just prior to recommencing part-time work as a State Registered Nurse, Findlay handed over total control of the site to his colleague, Dave Taylor. “Dave’s done the majority of the site from the start, anyway. I just wanted to approve anything that goes on there. Lately it’s just not an option, so I’ve left it with Dave and he’s doing a great job.

The majority of correspondence from Findlays’ site are actually carried out by Taylor, who makes a point of mentioning this to avoid misleading people. Findlay said of this, “If and when I have the time, I sit and respond to as many emails as I can. It’s a real buzz.” Findlay is more than aware of the importance of maintaining regular contact with fans who have supported him. “It’s probably as important, if not more important, than the actual music itself in lots of cases.”, Findlay said.

When asked what he thought the future may hold for him music-wise, he rather quirkily said, “You’d have to ask a psychic person that one.”

Paradoxically, since having marginally more time on his hands since centralising, he has not set foot in the studio in over a week. “There’s just nothing there.”, said Findlay, tapping his head. “I’ve actually got two songs from “Rough Edges” that I have a few ideas for, so I imagine I’ll be working on them pretty soon.”

Abba Gold Cd

Mamma mia! This cd is great! "Abba gold" has got all the greatest Abba songs on one cd. Their music has stood the test of time. This album was first released in 1994 and then in 2002 and another in 2004. This group made hit after hit! Even the slow songs sound great! Abba are still featured on radio  play lists across the world.

My favorite songs on the cd are "Dancing queen", "Gimme! gimme! gimme!",  "Money, money, money",  "S.O.S",  "Mamma mia", "Thank you for the music".  "Waterloo" was Abba's first UK no.1 single. "Mamma mia" and "Super trouper"  were also UK no.1 singles. "Fernando" reached no.1 in 12 countries. "The best of Abba" is still the biggest selling album (1.1 million) in Australia, spending 16 weeks at no.1 position.

"Money, money, money", "Knowing me, knowing you" and "Dancing queen" were all  great hits. "Chiquitita", "Does your mother know" and "Angleeyes" (not on this cd) reached no lower than no.4 in the UK. "Gimme! gimme! gimme!" was known as a disco hit in Europe. "The winner takes it all" was also a chart topper!  Erasure released an album, which copied Abba's songs. Abba hit back and released an album that copied Erasure's songs.

If you don't have this cd, and you enjoy Abba, then I strongly recommend that you purchase this cd. You won't be disappointed!  Please feel free to click through to my website for a track list of this cd. You will also be provided with a list of the lowest priced retailers that stock this cd and many other popular cd /dvd titles.

How to Participate in a Songwriting Contest?

Songwriting contests offer the biggest platform for budding songwriters to transform themselves from amateurs to professionals in the world of music. Moreover, winners achieve popularity and many music brands approach such artists asking them to write songs for them.

Therefore, if you are among such people who want to make it big by participating in the contest, then here are few tips, which will improve your chances of winning the contest. First, identify your genre and write the song accordingly.

Select the subject of the song, which is close to you. Experts say that, individuals can write the ultimate song only when they write about people, emotions that resonate with them. So, try to convey your feelings through the song. Make use of rhymes and choruses in alternating pattern.

To be more successful in song writing, use rhythmic portion to convey the story of your song. Punctuate the rhythmic lines with easy chorus, which encloses the message of song.

Next, write down the musical backdrop required for that song. Select which type of instruments you may use in song such as a bass, guitar, piano or drum. Whichever instruments you choose make sure that it goes with the lyrics of the song.

Music Recording and participating in the song contest:

If the song contest in which you are participating requires you to record the entire song with music, then you need to locate a recording studio. Record the sound tracks individually and incorporate the sound within the song at home using a recording system. Protect the song by registering it at the U.S copyright bureau.

Now, participate in songwriting contest or log on to the Internet web sites and locate popular song writing competitions. Next, participate in the professional song writing competition and submit your recorded CD or the written song.

However, you need to keep penning down your songs without waiting for results. At the same time, you need to prepare yourself for the rejection too. When it is about a song contest, many will participate and few of them win. Therefore, it might take few attempts but eventually it will lead to victory in songwriting contest.

Methods for Music Data Transmition

MUSIC COMPOSITION DATA EDITION DEVICE - EP1734505 (A1)

In a music composition data editing device and a music composition data editing method according to the present invention, music composition data comprises at least main data, ending data and connecting data being divided in the time-axis direction, wherein the reproduction time of the main data is calculated in bar unit, the main data is reproduced during the calculated reproduction time, and then the connecting data and the ending data are reproduced sequentially so as to carry out alignment at the start point and the end point of the reproduction time of input video/audio data.

MUSIC COMPOSITION DATA RECONSTRUCTION DEVICE - EP1830347 (A1)

An apparatus is provided that allows a musical piece to be recomposed by reflecting, for example, the mood, preference, and ambient environment of a listening user in the musical piece in real time. The apparatus includes a rhythm master unit 210 and a rhythm slave unit 220. The rhythm master unit 210 generates synchronization signals SYNC containing a signal having a period corresponding to a measure of a musical piece and a signal having a period corresponding to a beat of the musical piece and also generates musical-piece recomposition information ARI in synchronization with the synchronization signals. The rhythm slave unit 220
recomposes musical-piece data of input music content in accordance with the synchronization signals SYNC and the musical-piece recomposition information ARI, generates output musical-piece data, and outputs the musical-piece data to the rhythm slave unit 220.

MUSIC COMPOSITION DATA TRANSMISSION RECORDING METHOD - EP1624446 (A1)

A song in a music player is replaced by another song in a server in accordance with the user's estimated preferences and wishes and without requiring the user to become conscious of individual songs. A CPU (3) in the music player (30) or a CPU (11) in a server (10) detects or receives the size of a free space in a flash memory (34) and a playback history (a substantial playback count Kp, which denotes the number of times a song was continuously played for a duration not shorter than a predetermined one, or a skip count Ks, which denotes the number of times a song was played for a duration shorter than a predetermined one) of every song recording in the flash memory (34), and judges whether any song should be deleted from the flash memory (34) to permit a song to be downloaded into the music player (30) from the server (10). If any song should be deleted, the CPU selects a song having a small (minus) evaluation function K (e.g., K =" 2Kp" - Ks) as the song to be deleted.

MUSIC COMPOSITION REPRODUCTION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM - EP1912204 (A1)

[Problems] To provide a system for promoting user-friendly distribution of music composition data while considering the benefit of an author. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] When a user operates a mobile telephone (8) to give a reproduction instruction for reproducing music composition content downloaded, the mobile telephone (8) performs reproduction by converting the music content into waveform music composition data. Here, the mobile telephone (8) generates feature data indicating a feature of the converted waveform music composition data (object feature data) . Furthermore, it is judged whether right feature data matched with the object feature data is recorded. If not recorded, the mobile telephone (8) interrupts reproduction. If recorded, the mobile telephone (8) continues reproduction. Thus, only the mobile telephone (8) having the right feature data can reproduce the music composition content.

The Integral ''002'' Album Review

The Integral hails from the wonderful city of Montreal, Canada and they deliver eleven ''All Killer, No Filler'' tracks on their album 002. Their brand of progressive-tinged heavy, yet very melodic rock sets them head and shoulders above the hordes of modern rock bands strutting their stuff on commercial radio and MTV.   That's not to say that The Integral wouldn't fit right in, they'd just do so with a lot more edge and originality.

The Integral's music is very dynamic yet concise, never letting the band's offbeat twists and turns ever overtake ''the song''.  The vocals stream melodically over the music and the lyrics and hooks are impeccable.  Heart-stopping heavier numbers like Constant and Cycle contrast more ambient and psychedelic-inspired moments found in Disassembled and the instantly memorable For Days on End clearly demonstrating the band's willingness to experiment. A mind-bending instrumental track is even included for good measure, displaying a superb mix of groove and technique jam-packed with breaks, off-time measures, and punches.  The Integral's approach works very well throughout and never grows tired.  In 2003, under the name Pacer, the band released an excellent 7-song EP entitled Involuntary Movement instantly setting the bar extremely high.  Unlike most bands who suffer the dreaded ''sophomore slump'' The Integral have managed to surpass  their listeners' expectations and prove that they are here to stay, and even better things are yet to come.

This is a standout release and you will not want to skip through any songs, which is a hard find these days.  Most Indie releases are plagued with murky production, but the sound quality on this disc is excellent.  If you like your heavy rock served up with a generous amount of creativity and intelligence, ''002'' is what you crave

Electric Guitar Recording Techniques

A guitar is a type of musical instrument with ancient roots that is used in a wide variety of musical styles. It usually has six strings, but four, seven, eight, ten and twelve string guitars also exist. An electric guitar is the kind of guitar that uses pickups to convert the vibration of its steel cored string into electrical current, which is then amplified.

There are various ways to record an electric guitar. The traditional method is to connect to a really good amplifier. The latest option is to plug the guitar directly into the computer and use a software plug-in to handle the amp and the speaker modeling.

When recording an electric guitar, the amp is the important factor as far as the mic is concerned, and thus its position is important. The dynamic mic produces a solid sound with a smooth high end. However its position has just as much bearing on the tone as the mic itself.

One way to capture the sound of a large stack is to set up the stack in a large room, play it loud and put the microphone several feet away so that the combination of all the speakers can be recorded. Using this method, the mic captures the guitar sound as much as the audience would.

One of the microphones can be inverted though that does not produce the best result. Here using a capacitor microphone as the distant one often produces a sense of space, but the ultimate bottom line is that anything that sounds good goes with the guitar.

The biggest problem that many amateur guitarists face is poor tone. In order to solve this problem the recorder should check the amp and guitar combination on microphone level and then should decide where they would be placed. Tone should be adjusted but one thing should be kept in mind. The low end will increase if the microphone is placed close to the source. This is known as proximity effect.

The mic that is used for electric guitar recording is preferably a dynamic microphone because of its capability to endure high volumes. These are the technical things that one should keep in mind. But there are some simple points that will help while recording.

As a first and very basic rule, one should make sure that the guitar is in very good condition, that is, its strings are properly fitted. Tuning must be checked before every take as it is inclined to flow in warm studio.

Equipments containing transformers will tend to cause hum interference on electric guitar especially those of single coil pickups. Computer monitors in particular also cause serious interference problems with guitar pickups, so it is advisable to keep them as far away as possible.

While using different electric guitar types or sounds for recording, two or more overdrive guitar parts should be kept to keep the sounds separate in the mix. For example, using a single coil setting for one part and a humbucker for another.

How to Become a Singer and What You Can Do Today to Make it Happen

So, here's the main problem

When people decide they want to become a singer is that they simply don't know what to do next. Even if you have the talent to be the next big star, getting noticed by a record company, or anyone in the music industry can be tough! Many wanna-be singers don't have the 'inside information', or contacts that are needed to 'make it big' in the music industry even though they know they have the talent to go all the way!

Don't let your dreams pass you by

Most people sadly let their dreams of stardom pass them by without ever doing anything positive or constructive in order to achieve their goals and end up regretting later in life! It's so easy to get caught up in the corporate '9 to 5' grind that dominates the modern world and miss out on doing what you really want to do. If you truly want to be a singer, believe in yourself and make that promise to yourself now that you will go for it. You will need to take positive steps, and the first positive step I want you to make is to read this entire article. I promise you won't regret it!

First, I want to examine the top 3 ways in which many talented (and some not so talented) people, try, and fail to get noticed every year...

American Idol / X-Factor...

There can be only one American Idol / X-factor winner every year, and there are only a few people who have ever had a career longer than 1 year even after winning the competition. The person who came second is instantly forgotten. So if you are serious about a career in the music industry then you won't want to rely on TV competitions to be your only way of getting noticed.

Demos that just get thrown away...

You can always send of stacks of demos to record companies and other people in the industry, but since everyone’s personal computer is capable of producing a 'demo' these days there is no real value in a demo these days. How is your demo going to stand out from the pile that these companies receive every single day? The reality is that most demos go straight in the bin when they haven't even been listened to! Is it really worth spending lots of money on recording your demo when very few people will listen to it?

Auditions where you don't get a chance to show your talent...

You could always go to auditions, however you are rarely given an opportunity to showcase your talent, as a judgement is made about your looks as soon as you walk in the door. Even if you are clearly the most talented singer on the day, if your look isn't exactly what they are looking then you will be unsuccessful. These endless chain of auditions can get pretty disheartening after a while, and if you don't live near a major city (and I mean New York, London or Los Angeles), it can get pretty costly to attend these auditions.

The thing is that record companies ARE always looking for the next big artist to come along, as this means lots of money for you and for them.

The problem is how do you get out there and get noticed...?

Imagine this...

You come off stage one evening, and one of the audience comes up to you and says, "Hi, my brother works as a manager for "some famous band" and he's always telling me to look out for new acts that he might be able to manage. When I heard you start singing I just knew I had to tell him about you, so I phoned him up and let him listen to you sing, and he's asked me to give you his number, can you call him tomorrow?"

So you gladly accept this number and call this guys brother up. You arrange to send off the demo you recorded a few weeks earlier when a couple of musicians who had seen you performing wrote some songs for you because they thought you were great! Your demo is now not getting thrown in the bin at the record company, but being passed around the bosses who want to see you perform.

You then get invited to perform for these record company bosses, and because you're an experienced and confident performer, you give the show of your life and before you know it you have a record contract.

It's all about making contacts...

Ok, so you're probably thinking 'that all sounds a bit too easy' or 'but surely it doesn't happen like that in the real world'. Well, I’m 24 years old, and I’ve been a professional solo singer since I was 20, and I’m currently in negotiations with a company regarding my first album release. I've been offered three record deals in the past however I've ultimately turned them down due to artistic differences. However, all the contacts I’ve made over the last 4 years have come from being out there performing. I've met other singers, songwriters, agents, managers and like in the example I’ve used above, family members of major recording industry managers.

Now you can choose one of three paths...

  1. You can do nothing about your dream, and look back in 20 years and ask yourself why you didn't go for it when you had the opportunity!

  2. You can take your chance applying for TV shows, attending auditions and sending off demos. But you know the reasons why these methods rarely work, even for the most talented singers.

  3. You can put yourself out there on stage and perform, get yourself noticed, build up your contacts in the industry and make things happen for yourself.

Get out there and people WILL listen to you!

So I really hope you've gone for 3. Now make the decision to make it happen! What is stopping you?

  • 'I can't just give up work, I need the money?' - Of course you shouldn't give up work. You can sing as much as your voice can handle or as little as you need to to fulfil other commitments you have! Oh, and you'll probably find the extra cash handy too!

  • I'm still at school, aren't I too young?' - No way! School is a great place to do musical stuff. It'll be really easy to get a band together and there will be plenty of places that you can play!

  • There are loads of ways to get yourself out there and work as a singer, I started out doing just a couple of gigs a month while I was working during the day, although after 3 months I was earning nearly twice as much from singing as I was from my day job, so I quit! Now, I spend my Monday mornings having a nice long lie in, rather than stuck in traffic!

People LOVE musical entertainment, here are just a few examples of place you can play!

  • Bars

  • Clubs

  • Hotels

  • Casinos

  • Corporate Events

  • Weddings, Birthdays and other private parties

  • Live Entertainment Venues

The list goes on...

There are also endless possibilities when it comes to your act...

  • A Solo Singer

  • Part of a Duo

  • Vocal Group

  • Full Backing Band

You are really only limited by your imagination...

There is ALWAYS work out there for good singers!

The thing is that there are lots of people who are very average singers out there who earn a good amount of cash from singing like this...and the people who pay these people are fed up of paying for average singers and are willing and eager to pay great money to hire great singers like you!

There are loads of ways to get out there and make money but there is more to it than just going into your local live music venue and asking to sing! In the box below I'll be looking at some of the things you'll need to have thought about before you head out there on stage!

Here are some things you'll need to consider...

  • Will you be a solo singer or a band? - It can be easier starting out as part of a band, but being a soloist also has some major advantages? Of course you can always do both!!

  • What kind of music will you sing? - You can pretty much sing whatever type of music you want. But you'll need to think about what type of music your audience will want to hear!

  • Your first gig - an exciting and nerve-wracking occasion...and you'll want to make it go right, how will you go about this?

  • What kind of equipment will you need and how will you use it? - At a very basic level you need to know a bit about microphones and what is the right way to sing through a microphone...its very different to singing without one!!!

  • How will you put your set together? - You can just go out there and sing your songs in a random order, but you'll stun audiences if you take the time and put it together properly!

  • How will you find work? - You'll want to find an agent, and there are agents out there who will want you on their book, trust me!

  • What venues will you be working in? - As a singer you will need to approach different venues slightly differently.

So there you go...just a few things to think about. Of course there are other things, rehearsals, what to wear, promotional photographs etc...

Unfortunately, most people just go out there and don't even think about half the stuff that I've talked about, and end up giving pretty bad, poorly presented shows. Trust me, I often work with other singers and the vast majority of them are simply not very good! These singers quickly get themselves a bad reputation, get fewer gigs, and less money as a result. It's a real shame when people who have great voices and fantastic potential fail to think about these easy to avoid problems, and basically destroy their singing careers before they even start!

Of course this can all be avoided!

In my spare time I work as a vocal coach, and I often get asked by my students how to go about starting a career in singing. I decided to write a series of articles. These proved very popular, and so I decided to expand them, add some new chapters and turn them into a book. It's called 'Start Your Career In Singing' and you can dowload the first few totally free, and get a 10 day email course by visiting http://www.makealivingfrom.com/singing/free_chapters.aspx.

Recording In Your Home Studio

Producing own music sounds tough but is a creative one. But this means spending a good amount of money to produce and record the music in the professional recording studio. Paying in bulk is a regular phenomenon especially for the professional musicians.

But if this music production can be done in a personal studio, it will not only save those valuable bucks of yours but will also give you ample chance to add more creativity to your creation. By personal studio, it means a home studio built by you according to your needs and within your budget.

Basically, when we talk about a recording studio, it means a number of devices that capture different takes of the performance and assemble them into a finished audio product. Generally, this type of studio includes devices like recorders, microphones, mixer, audio processor and other instruments.

However, to set up your own home recording studio, there are a few qualities that you must posses. The quality of a musician, of an audio engineer and of a producer. And most importantly, you should have expertise in the devices of modern software studio as well as devices related to classical hardware machines.

This expertise must include some important knowledge like the use of EQ to clean up a track, when to use compression, how to record vocals, guitars, drums, the accurate place to put reverb in the mix, and the ways to level everything to make an astonishing audio image. Therefore, to record in your home studio, it is necessary to have years of experience in music as well as audio engineering.

A modern software studio or a hardware digital multi track basically includes modern digital multi track machines, modern recording software (called sequencer), compressors, limiters, vocal processors, equalizations, consoles and reverbs.

The most important component of the home studio is the multi track recorder. It is a device that allows you to record audio directly to separate tracks. And after all the tracks are added, they can be mixed down to a stereo master recording. In fact, digital multi track recorders have inbuilt effects which can be added to the tracks. But there is a twist here, as multi track recorder is a recording device, the sequencer is also a recording device. But the difference between both is that a sequencer can record as well as edit MIDI data, which a multi track recorder cannot.

Now, talking about a sequencer, it should be noted that it is a very important device in recording audio. In fact, it has the capability to record both digital audio and MIDI data and blend the sounds together in the software mixing console that it possesses. Moreover, as already mentioned, it has editing tools through which every aspect of the production can be controlled and can bring down to fine details. The vital point is that this device is quite inexpensive and thus easily affordable.

Most interestingly, home studio enables you to record any kind of music. You can record symphonies, orchestra, rap, pop, jazz or any such type. In fact, you can even record midi files of any style and even change the midi file into realistic and convincing pieces.

How To Become Rich And Famous With The Right Singing Gigs

In order for a singer to survive in his chosen field, he needs to secure several gigs where he can show the audience exactly what he is made of. This is every singers dream as it is hopefully the start of their path to becoming rich and famous.

But how does the singer manage to get these gigs? Well, here are some steps to help him on his way.

1. First of all, he needs to get an agent. He will have to display his talents and hope a reputable agent will take him on. This way he does not have to find the gigs himself - the agent will do this on his behalf. It's just a case of being able to organize his schedule.

2. He then needs to search the ads which are popping up everywhere these days. Magazines, newspapers and music related newsletters are good resources as they will have details of openings available such as bars with entertainment or a music lounge type of establishment. The World Wide Web, the television and radio are also full of information and the opportunities are there just waiting for him to showcase his talents.

3. He can, of course, place advertisements himself. If the perfect breaks do not fall into his lap then the performer has to sell his skills. He should include his contact information in his ad to ensure the best results come from the promotion of his talents.

4. He needs to be active in and around the industry of entertainment by joining associations and groups in relation to what he does best. This is a great way to meet people who may well influence his career in the future.

5. He should sell himself as a complete package via websites or comparable opportunities. The recording of a sample song to present to a selection of recording companies, almost like an audition, is another useful way to raise his profile.

6. The performer needs to gather together all his prospective employers and use the option he has to move from one music label to another making an application to be their latest talent. It is also worth asking at hotels where entertainment is laid on to see if they require any new acts either now or in the not too distant future.

If the artist has worthy talents he only really needs one regular booking to get him started. Following on from this, word will soon spread and sooner or later people will actually be seeking him out instead of him having to look for venues to play. With good management and a little bit of luck his big break may be waiting just around the corner.

How To Choose A Good Speaker

Composing, recording and reproducing music is not enough; it should reach the ears of the music lovers. And that is why, beside other musical instruments, the speaker is also an important component of the music gear. A speaker is a device through which we receive the sound or the music. Therefore, it is very essential to choose a good speaker that will deliver high quality sound and which has high frequency level like the 2-way speakers and 3-way speakers.

However, most of the speakers of the recent times are engineered to reproduce lively and dynamic digital sources. Having been made in innovative designs, they deliver detailed and powerful sound. Moreover, nowadays there are various options to choose, starting from large floor-standing powered tower speaker to great sounding satellites that will fit in the palm of the hands. However, as the options go on increasing, the choosing has to be done very carefully.

The first step in choosing a good speaker is to decide what kind of speaker is required: whether it is a floor-standing speaker, a subwoofer or satellite system speaker, and an in wall, in ceiling or an outdoors speaker. Actually, choosing the type of speaker will depend on the purpose for which it is going to be used. Now, all these different speakers have different qualities and features. For instance, subwoofers are the tiniest speakers with amazing performance whereas, floor standing speakers are the larger ones with wide range of frequencies and deep bass. Therefore, a proper decision has to be made as to which one to prefer.

One more fact is related to the listening level. High sound does not mean loud noise; it means quality sound with normal listening levels. With this comes the nature of the sound. A good speaker should deliver clear, natural and lively sound with no distortion. And moreover, a good speaker should have the capability to make the illusion of a live performance very believable.

Next thing to decide is whether to choose a branded speaker or a second hand one. This is a matter that depends upon the quality of the speaker. It is not necessary that the imported or branded speakers will be better. Often they prove to be good but features should be checked properly. This is also a fact that the used speakers too are fine sometimes but that needs minute checking. In fact, used speaker is quite inexpensive.

But in case of the speaker required for professional use such as stage performance, television and radio, there are professional speakers available that are technically strong and are highly qualitative. But usually they are expensive.

It is not only the quality of the sound that matters while going for a good speaker. In fact, besides other things, the cabinet is another thing that has to be of excellent quality. Moreover, the cabinet construction has to be good. If the material is low quality plastic or thin timbre in the rears then noise will be more from the cabinet, as they will come from the drivers. If the cabinet is to move plentiful air, it really has to be static and rigid.
